- U.S. Sens. Schumer and Gillibrand call on New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to resign
-
In a sign that Governor Cuomo's comments during his 12 March 2020 news briefing were not well received, both New York's U.S. Senators, Charles Schumer (D-NY) and Kristen Gillebrand (D-NY), are now calling for his resignation:
Schumer and Gillibrand, both Democrats, are the most prominent officials yet to call for Cuomo's resignation. Their statement added further momentum to a growing tide of Cuomo's fellow Democrats urging him to leave office.
"Due to the multiple, credible sexual harassment and misconduct allegations, it is clear that Governor Cuomo has lost the confidence of his governing partners and the people of New York," the senators said in a joint statement. "Governor Cuomo should resign."
They're not exactly setting profiles in courage in calling for Governor Cuomo's resignation so late on a Friday. Notice also they are fixating on the very recent and still yet to be verified sexual harassment allegations, and not the thousands of well established COVID nursing home resident deaths to which Governor Cuomo and members of his administration contributed through their disastrous policies and hid from the public.
