- Eric Adams calls for Cuomo impeachment to ‘move forward’ if governor doesn’t resign
-
This report is significant given that Adams has built a wide platform of support for his NYC mayoral run, whose upcoming election is virtually a lock in the Democratic party stronghold.
Democratic mayoral nominee Eric Adams said Tuesday that state lawmakers should impeach Gov. Andrew Cuomo if he does not resign in the wake of the attorney general’s bombshell sexual harassment probe.
“Attorney General James conducted a thorough and revealing investigation that yielded disturbing conclusions about the conduct of Governor Cuomo,” Adams said in a statement, released Tuesday afternoon.
Adams, who on July 14 appeared with Cuomo, said the legislature’s lower house should quickly “move forward” with the impeachment process.
“It is now the duty of the New York State Assembly to take swift and appropriate action and move forward with impeachment proceedings if the Governor will not resign.”
Adams remarks stand out in that he advocates for Cuomo's impeachment to move forward if the embattled governor continues to refuse to resign.
Current New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio has also renewed his call for Cuomo to resign, but his call carries much less weight because of his diminishing political support.
