- Civil Rights Lawyer and Advocate Alphonso David Sues Human Rights Campaign for Racial Discrimination
-
While this article appears on the Associated Press' web site, it's really a press release issued by former Cuomo crony Alphonso David's legal team. Here's the introduction:
Alphonso David, who served as Human Rights Campaign’s first Black President from 2019 to 2021, has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) for racial discrimination. As the lawsuit alleges, after twenty years of advancing justice and equality for marginalized communities, Mr. David’s tenure at HRC was mired with racial bias, including Board Members admitting that HRC underpaid him in his initial two years compared to his white predecessor, and being told to stop referencing his race in public because it could alienate white donors. Mr. David was further maligned, targeted and ultimately dismissed by HRC after he challenged them to make the findings of an internal review public, which they had promised but ultimately failed to do.
We'll spare readers the rest of David's press release, which by definition, is as one-sided and as self-serving as might be imagined. We're presenting it in the timeline only because David continued serving the political interests as a member of Andrew M. Cuomo's influence network, choosing to put those interests ahead of those of his employer. Although not mentioned in David's press release, David's choice to act as an agent for Cuomo harmed the LGBTQ civil right organization's ability to raise funds after his extracurricular activities were exposed, which is why he was really sacked by the alleged racists he now claims were underpaying him to lead them.
