- CNN’s Chris Cuomo Show Hit All-Time Low in Ratings Last Week
-
There wasn't any news related to Andrew M. Cuomo's COVID nursing home deaths scandals today, nor was there any new news about his multiple sexual harassment scandals.
That leaves us with only the bottom story of the day, which means it involves the ethically -troubled Chris Cuomo, the presenter of CNN's Primetime news broadcast. Here's an excerpt from The Wrap:
CNN’s “Cuomo Prime Time” hit an all-time low for the show in the ratings last week, according to Nielsen Media Research ratings data.
In total, Chris Cuomo’s 9 p.m. ET program pulled in 684,000 total average viewers last week. Of those, 156,000 were in the advertiser-coveted age demographic of 25 to 54. When the program’s permanent version launched the first week of June 2018, it averaged 1.137 million total viewers and 377,000 demo viewers. A representative for CNN did not immediately return a request for comment.
We'll break in here to note that if The Wrap had gotten a CNN representative to return a comment, they would no doubt claim Chris Cuomo's "appeal is becoming more selective".
The report provides some additional context for understanding Cuomo's diminishing appeal:
In September, Cuomo saw a ratings decline after his brother, Andrew Cuomo, resigned as governor of New York after being accused of sexual harassment by multiple women. “Cuomo Prime Time” remained CNN’s highest-rated show in August, garnering 964,000 total average viewers and 222,000 in the demo.
The hard times are likely to continue at CNN until the network's management fully cleans house. Which likely won't happen until next year when new management might take over.
