- Lawmaker: Former Gov. Cuomo could face more charges from impeachment probe
-
This report was broadcast by News12 Westchester on 11 November 2021. We're finally catching up to it following the much larger volume of news that came out of the release of transcripts from the New York state attorney general's sexual harassment probe of Andrew M. Cuomo.
A top lawmaker on the Assembly Judiciary Committee's impeachment probe says former Gov. Andrew Cuomo could soon be facing additional criminal charges.
Assemblyman Michael Montesano says the charges potentially coming to the former governor would be based on his handling of nursing home deaths during the pandemic, as well as the sexual harassment allegations detailed in the attorney general's report this week.
"It's needed and necessary for people to have closure, especially when it comes to the nursing home scandal, the book and hostile work environment and other things that have been investigated " Montesano says. "The affected people need closure--especially those people that lost loved ones. Fifteen-thousand people died in nursing homes and there has to be accountability about what was altered in the report--the obstruction charges--things of that nature." Montesano says the report could be released to the public in as soon as two to three weeks.
The New York Assembly's Judiciary Committee is expected to meet later this week to review the report being prepared by the law firm it hired to conduct its impeachment probe of Andrew M. Cuomo's alleged misconduct in office. The New York Assembly has approved the payment of $5.12 million for the Cuomo impeachment probe.
